Public Safety Idea Starter: Parent and Police Partnership Key Program

The South Portland, ME, Police Department and School Department are collaborating to offer a Parent & Police Partnership Key Program designed to help prevent underage drinking in the community by allowing parents to register their homes for safety checks while they are away.

If the police notice anything out of the ordinary in their safety check, they will, with the parent’s permission, retrieve a house key from a designated key holder and enter the house. Parents will be notified of any problems.
